Wildfire and smoke seen from Hatcher Pass, AK
Observation: In the Knik River Valley area south of Palmer and about 15 miles east of Wasilla, there was about a 20 acre wildfire in the Butte area. The weather conditions were warm, dry with a bit windy. Residents in the Mat Valley were concerned that the wildfire was out control because of wind conditions and of the air conditions because of the smoke.

The weather conditions in these areas of concern were, strong winds, low relative humidity. The other areas of Alaska with the Fire Weather Red Flag Warnings were, Western Kenai Peninsula, Copper River Basin, Susitna Valley, Lower Kuskokwim Valley, Interior portions of Bristol Bay, Central Interior, Middle Tanana Valley, Deltana And Tanana Flats, Upper Tanana Valley and Fortymile Country, Denali, and Northeastern Slopes of the Eastern Alaska Range.
