"I don’t recall seeing anything like this before."
Observation by Mike Brubaker:
I was walking near Little Campbell Lake and spotted this interesting peach - sized tree fungus on the south side of a dead birch tree. I don’t recall seeing anything like this before.
Comment by LEO Network Editors:
We shared this during the LEO Network Alaska quarterly webinar and participants asked whether this might be Lion's Mane. Our best guess here at LEO Network is a Coral Tooth Fungus.
Comment by Gino Gratziano:
I am not a mycologist, but I do have one guide to mushrooms in Alaska that refers to this as Bear's head or coral tooth fungus, Hericium coralloides. It grows on hardwoods, and what I can tell is not found often.
