11-14-14 Jellyfish bloom Haines, Alaska, USA
Observation: While I was commercial crabbing in Chilkoot Inlet I notice a lot of jelly fish and they were everywhere in the water. I ask another commercial fisherman if he has seen jelly fish like this and he said he hadn't seen this much jelly fish before. I also notice as it got closer to November there was more dead jelly fish floating around and washing up on shore than the beginning of the month. - Maclean's, by Kate Lunau - Attack of the jellyfish, "Scientists debate the 'rise of slime' theory - Jellyfish blooms are nothing new: Condon has studied newspaper reports from the turn of the last century, and the Cambrian period (about 500 million years ago) by studying fossils. Researchers still don’t understand what causes a jellyfish bloom, but he says it must be part of their natural cycle."
