Egret near Inuvik observed by numerous folks in Inuvik.
David Livingstone writes,
Egret near Inuvik observed by numerous folks in Inuvik and positively identified by Canadian wildlife service biologists in Yellowknife based on provided photos.
LEO says:
There are four species of egrets common to North America: the Cattle Egret, Snowy Egret, Red Egret and the Great Egret. The Great Egret is the most common and normally ranges from Florida to Southern Canada. This sighting in Inuvik would certainly be outside the normal range. As described by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, "The elegant Great Egret is a dazzling sight in many a North American wetland. Slightly smaller and more svelte than a Great Blue Heron, these are still large birds with impressive wingspans." For more information on the Egrets, we recommend Cornell's All About Birds website. If a photo of the bird is available, it would help in identification of the egret species. LEO has shared this observation with the Government of Northwest Territories.
